August was very quiet, but that's not too strange for this time of year. Looking back I definitely think my tapes are the strongest they've ever been, it's just finding myslef in the right place, at the right time, and taping for the right project. The more I do, the more likely I am for those particular stars to align. Got to stay positive.
One audition of note was my first movie audition of the year. I've auditioned for a few films in the past, and I have a pretty good track record of getting deep into the audition process, this one was no exception. I'm not allowed to say much, but I do know that I'm still in the running. I'm not getting my hopes too high, but it is an undoubtedly exciting project.
This was also Edinburgh Fringe month! One of my favourite times of year, as I get to visit home and see some incredible theatre. My partner was able to get a few days off work so we made the most of it and headed up north to see our friends shows. I love seeing my friends perform. You do this kind of work for long enough and most of your friends end up in the arts in some way or another, so getting to go support their work becomes this energising experience because you know how difficult the process can be. Taking an idea from floating around in your head to a finished production is a long, arduous, and costly path. Any show that makes it to stage is a little bit of a miracle.
We saw about 10 shows in total, not every one was brilliant obviosuly, but even the less polished ones were well worth seeing. There was a puppetry show we saw that, whilst there were definitely some things I would have done differently, I learned a lot from seeing it. I left feeling excited, ready to tackle something of my own. You can't really ask for a better feeling than that.
Whilst my partner had to head back down to go back to work, I stayed with family for a while and got to clear my head. I've never really associated the concept of "home" with a place, it's so much more about the people I'm with, but since moving to England I realise how much Scotland feels like home. Whenever I'm there the way forward feels a bit more clear. I got some writing done and spent lots of time outside, returning down south feeling confident and capable.
There's a lot going on at the moment, and the brief pause was a welcome relief.
