  • Theatre - 1 (self-tape)
  • Puppetry - 1 (self-tape)

May left me busy doing everything else.

This month I had a bit of variety; an interesting puppeteer job which could keep me busy throughout the year, a theatre tape I was really passionate about, and an advert from my agent to tide me over.

I found the puppetry job myself, it's a freelance gig doing kids shows at events; summer fates, music festivals, that kind of thing. It's not normally the kind of work I'd be massively interested in but it has the potential to provide a lot of hours working with puppets, and at the moment that's what I need most, experience. The more reps I can get in doing scripted and improvised work with puppets, the quicker I'll improve.

The theatre job was a production of Macbeth, which I already know I didn't get. I was a bit saddened by that one, but I can't linger on these things too long.

The advert also went nowhere but the tape was fun, and the team seemed really interesting. I was at the cinema a few days later with friends and got to spend the pre-film ads telling them which ones I'd auditioned for. There were at least 5.

As you can tell, this update is being written very late. I'm having to go through my diary to remember what exactly was happening. Coming back to writing for the blog has been a lot more difficult than I anticipated; the words don't flow as easily, redrafting takes longer, and I'm wondering how I ever thought some of these entries were a good idea. I've been writing one post about national identity and my relationship with "home" for about a week now and I'm getting nowhere with it. It's fairly topical too so if I bin it for now it's likely I'll never come back to it. I'm feeling the rust big time.

The temptation to restructure the website is rearing it's head again too. I don't know if I'll go ahead with a redesign, but whenever I see Jedda do something interesting (like her new "Life Lately" posts) it makes me want to scrap the whole thing and start again. At some point I followed some guide that told me to split my style.css sheet into multiple CSS documents so that they're easier to manage. It seemed like a good idea at the time but now I can't tell where anything is. I'm still not happy with the "What's New" section on the homepage either, but I haven't found a better alternative yet that isn't just my own "Life Lately" posts.
