A bit late with this month's update, but glad to say it's been due to a hectic month, not me losing interest in the blog already.

This month kicked off with that long-awaited BIG AUDITION. I didn't get it. The audition itself was great; the scene work went really well, and the casting team was lovely as expected, and I was proud of the work I put in, as well as what I showed in the room; but I heard within a few days that it hadn't gone my way.

Sometimes news like that hurts more than it normally does. Mainly it's because I've built up that particular job in my head. Could be because I thought I was a particualrly good fit for that part, or I did an especially good audition, or sometimes the potential pay is particularly enticing. Whatever the reason, a little seed gets planted in your head that grows all the way up to the audition, and flowers in the time it takes to hear back, right up untill the point you get a yes or a no. Then, if it hasn't gone your way, you have to cut it down.

Following that audition, a string of adverts and TV auditions came through which also didn't lead to much, so confidence was at a low this month. I decided the best thing to do was bury myself in rehersals for the short play, which were a welcome distraction. The script was a warm, fun little nugget of comic relief which felt very close to me and my experience. Stepping in to that part felt as easy as getting dressed, and the experience working with the writer, director, and fellow cast members was a joy. It's easy to forget the specific things that make you fall in love with a job like this, but spending time with like-minded artists working towards something that excites you, making all those little decisions, is definitely one of them.

I'll write seperately about the performances in next month's round-up, if not in their own post.
